Day 1: Arrival - Hradec Králové

After your arrival at the hotel and the welcome by your tour guides, dinner will be served to you. Afterwards we recommend you go for a stroll through the evening city.

Day 2: Hradec Králové - Častolovice - Vamberk - Hradec Králové

After breakfast, you will visit Hradec Králové (Königgrätz), one of the oldest Bohemian cities, with its historical city centre, where you can come across almost all architectural styles. There is the St. Mary´s Column, the Holy Ghost Cathedral, the old Town Hall, the bishop´s residence and many more. There is the opportunity to visit a museum offering an exhibition of unique, carved Christmas cribs. Afterwards, you´ll move on to the Častolovice Chateau. This Chateau houses a magnificent coffered ceiling and the 24 fields in this ceiling depict scenes from the Old Testament. In the late afternoon, you will have reached the bobbin lace capital – the town of Vamberk. You will visit the museum where you will get to know the bobbin laces, which are manually manufactured. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 3: Hradec Králové - Pardubice - Kutná Hora - Hradec Králové

Firstly, today´s trip will take you to the City of Pardubice, which is famous for its ginger bread manufacture and the toughest horse racing course in Europe. Kutná Hora, your second destination – was the second most important Bohemian city in medieval times and temporarily the Bohemian Kings´ residence as well. The city´s highlight is the gothic St. Barbara Church, yet also St. Jacob´s, the Italian Court and the small castle named Hrádek are worth seeing. You will have reached your sightseeing highlight when arriving in the Sedlec district and the Cemetery Chapel Ossuary (with bones of approximately 30,000 plague victims from the 14th century). Overnight stay at your hotel.

Day 4: Hradec Králové - Smiřice - Kuks – Josefov - Opočno - Hradec Králové

This day begins with you visiting the Castle Church of God´s revelation in Smiřice which is extraordinarily valuable due to its interior, designed by leading artists. Its vaults are decorated by an eight-point star. Following this sight, the schedule is to proceed to the reconstructed Baroque Hospital Kuks where one can admire the 24 most expressive Baroque statues made by the sculptor Matthias B. Braun and the hospital, the pharmacy, the retirement home and a church. Afterwards, you´ll drive through the unique Josefov Fortress near Jaroměř. This fortress was built after the loss of the Glatz Fortress, which fell to Prussia following the Peace of Hubertusburg in 1763. It was built by Emperor Joseph II. to protect Bohemia against a Prussian army invasion. You will spend the afternoon in Opočno, where you can admire a three-naved Renaissance Chateau. This chateau houses a gallery with Italian paintings from the 16th up to the 18th century as well as a precious chateau library. Also, the Knight Hall where precious armour and historical weapons are exhibited is worth seeing. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Side trip –Königgrätz Battlefield of 1866

In order to reach the Königgrätz Battlefield of 1866, you leave the city in a north-west direction for Jičín and after approx. 11 km, you get to the village of Chlum with the Prussian military cemetery and the museum (historical documents, uniforms, weapons etc.). Visiting the surrounding monuments is about a two-hour walk on marked paths.

Side trip – Adršpach Stone Town

You´ll hardly see anywhere else so many fascinating spots in one location as in the Teplice-Adršpach Rocks. This rock formation represents the largest and wildest Central European Stone Town.

Side trip – Journey to Litomyšl

Just admire the well-known Chateau town of Litomyšl which is just a 1-hour drive away from Hradec Králové. The marketplace with its arcades is impressive in itself, yet what´s especially worth seeing is the renaissance chateau and its delicate arcade square on the chateau hill. The house where the famous Czech composer Bedřich Smetana was born, is located just on the opposite side.

We recommend: The second oldest Czech music festival called Smetanova Lytomyšl (Smetana´s Litomyšl), which commemorates Litomyšl´s most famous native and takes place annually in July. The main program consists of opera performances, gala concerts, cantatas and recitals; the multifaceted program offers ballet and promenade concerts as well.
