Public holidays in the Czech Republic

Public holidays are as follows:

 

1 January                     Restoration of Czech Independence Day

8 May                           Liberation Day

5 July                           St. Cyril and Methodius Day

6 July                           Jan Hus Day

28 September               Czech Statehood Day

28 October                    Independent Czechoslovak State Day

17 November                Struggle for Freedom and Democracy day

 

From the point of view of labour laws, the other public holidays have the same importance as these and are not classed as working days. This means that most companies are closed on the above-mentioned holidays. Public transport does not run or runs according to special timetables, smaller shops are closed. Shopping centres and restaurants have shorter opening times.
